South Dakota Artist Laney Titze Inspires with Photography Puzzles | State News
KXLG – South Dakota In March 2022, then-19-year-old South Dakota artist Laney Titze embarked on a journey to share her creative vision with the world. What began as a small photography business started by Laney and her mother has blossomed into a mission to bring families together and foster critical thinking skills.
Now at 21, Laney, a Mitchell native, continues to share her passion in unique ways. As an elementary and special education major at Dakota Wesleyan University, she’s discovered firsthand the benefits of puzzles for learners of all ages.
“During my classroom observations for my degree, I noticed that many kids struggle with critical thinking skills,” Laney shared. “I wanted to address this issue in a creative way. That’s when it hit me—I could combine my love of photography and turn my pictures into puzzles! Puzzles are such a great way to engage the brain while improving problem-solving and critical thinking skills.”
Laney dove headfirst into researching how to turn her vision into reality. Her priority was to ensure her puzzles were entirely made in the USA, and after thorough exploration, she selected a Georgia-based company to produce and ship her designs. With thousands of images in her photography portfolio—captured during her travels across South Dakota—she carefully curated 20 photos to launch her puzzle line.
“Every photo tells a story, and they’re all deeply rooted in South Dakota. From Mitchell to Stickney to Armour, these images represent the heart of my home state,” Laney said. “I’m excited to explore more small towns and create even more puzzles that celebrate South Dakota’s charm.”
Laney’s puzzles are more than a hobby or business—they’re a tool for connection and growth. Whether in a family living room or a classroom, she hopes her puzzles inspire bonding and learning.
“Working on a puzzle with your child is a wonderful way to teach critical thinking and problem-solving skills while spending quality time together,” she explained. “I can’t wait to have these puzzles in my own classroom someday and share the stories behind each image. Who knows? Maybe I’ll inspire a new generation of South Dakota artists.”
Laney’s story is about creativity, perseverance, and a deep love for her community. With each puzzle, she shares her artistic talent and offers families and students a chance to engage, learn, and grow together.
